Work backwards from the flight
Start with your airline’s check-in, bag-drop and airport-arrival guidance. Add the time needed to reach the airport terminal after the boat journey, plus the transfer operator’s check-in and pickup instructions. Then choose a suitable departure. Do not use a generic canal journey duration as your entire airport allowance. Waiting, intermediate stops, walking and operational changes can all affect the connection.
For Alilaguna, check your exact stop and line
Use Alilaguna’s current route map and timetable to find an airport-bound service from a stop you can reach with your luggage. The Orange line serves Rialto and other Grand Canal stops; the Blue line serves the San Marco area and other locations. Check the current boarding point and direction. A familiar stop name does not tell you which pier or next departure is correct for your flight.
For a taxi, agree the collection arrangements
Book the city-to-airport option and give the operator your hotel and flight details. Confirm the actual landing and the required meeting time, rather than assuming the taxi will collect you from the hotel reception. Shared services may coordinate multiple passengers. A private reservation still needs a usable pickup point. Ask how the operator will communicate the final arrangement and what to do if you cannot find the boat.
Check whether you already hold a return
Open your original confirmation and read the purchased option. A product that is sold in both directions does not mean your individual booking includes both. If you selected a return, follow its instructions for the airport-bound leg. Otherwise, buy the separate journey you need. Make sure passenger names or numbers, luggage requirements and travel date match this leg, especially if part of the group is leaving earlier.
Do the final check before checkout from the hotel
Keep the operator contact and confirmation ready, charge your phone and verify any service notices. Ask your hotel about the walk to the landing if you have not used it before. If the published schedule cannot support an early or late flight, arrange a service that explicitly can; do not assume all boats run around the clock. Read amendment and cancellation terms when booking rather than expecting a flexible transfer by default.
