Check the station first
Use this guide for Venezia Santa Lucia on the historic island. Venezia Mestre is on the mainland. If your train ticket says Mestre, plan the additional connection before booking a Santa Lucia water taxi. The names are easy to confuse when selecting a transfer quickly.
Public transport for an independent arrival
An ACTV ticket lets you use the included network, subject to the ticket duration and route conditions. At the landing, check the destination, direction and platform for the actual departure. A service reaching the same destination may follow a different route or stop pattern; use the live operator timetable rather than treating a line number as a fixed sightseeing promise.
A transfer for the group and bags
A station water taxi can remove the need to work out public-boat connections with luggage. Compare shared and private arrangements and ask the hotel about its landing. Check the meeting point on the confirmation, because a representative’s meeting location may differ from the pontoon where you eventually board.
Onward visits
Once you have dropped bags, choose a separate boat experience or an attraction near your hotel. A gondola ride is better booked as an outing than used as a substitute for the arrival transfer. If you plan to travel repeatedly, compare pass validity across the rest of your stay before buying multiple short-duration tickets.
