Day one: choose one central Venice anchor
Start with one attraction you particularly want to visit, such as the Doge’s Palace or St Mark’s Basilica. Choose its ticket and time first, then give yourself room to explore the surrounding streets and have lunch. Booking both attractions plus a guided walk and a boat departure in a tight morning creates more connections to manage. A slower first day also helps you understand the walking routes from your accommodation.
Add a gondola that fits your sightseeing
Choose a standalone gondola if you want to keep the walking independent. If a guided introduction is important, a walking-tour-and-gondola combination may replace both a separate walk and a separate ride. Check the shared or private format and locate the meeting point before committing. The gondola is a sightseeing experience, so do not plan to use it as transport from the attraction to your hotel.
Day two: decide how to visit the islands
An organised Murano and Burano tour gives you a defined departure, a glassblowing demonstration and a return plan. A three-island tour adds Torcello if that stop matters to you. Independent ACTV travel lets you decide your time ashore, but you must plan the public connections yourself. Choose one approach. A tour ticket does not usually make a second transport pass necessary for the same excursion.
Buy transport for the gaps in the plan
List the remaining journeys: getting from your hotel to the meeting point, crossing the city and returning after sightseeing. Compare ACTV options for those needs. A pass can be useful for repeated public journeys, but a holiday lasting two days does not automatically require a two-day pass. Airport travel is another decision entirely. Keep the arrival and departure transfer details separate from your sightseeing reservations.
Make the final evening easy
If you return from the islands that day, leave your evening flexible until you know the tour finish and onward journey. Choose dinner on land or a separately booked lagoon outing only with a comfortable gap. Pack what you need for time ashore and keep each confirmation available. This is a suggested itinerary, not a joined-up package: each product has its own meeting point, operator and booking terms.
